Can I make a new book for another missionary?
You can make as many mission books as you’d like! Preserve a Mission is developing new features every day, and we’re working on creating an easy way for you to design multiple books for different missionaries within the same account. For now, the easiest way for you to create books for different missionaries is to create a new account for each missionary so that their emails are stored separately. To be notified when new features are released, sign up for our newsletter.
What if there are typos and spelling errors in my emails?
You can easily preserve your mission emails without preserving any of your typos, spelling mistakes, or other email flubs. After uploading your emails, the Preserve a Mission editor allows you to change, add, or delete text, change email dates, and include or delete photos that were attached to your uploaded emails.
The dates on my emails are wrong! What do I do?
Preserve a Mission’s system automatically retrieves the date that an email was sent. This means that if you forwarded your MyLDSMail emails to another account to save them, your emails will appear with the date that they were forwarded to your personal account instead of the date they were originally sent. Fortunately, it’s easy to edit the dates of your emails as they will appear in your finished book, and you can make changes in the editor.
Can I start making a book during an active mission and update it as new emails arrive?
While most people create their Preserve a Mission book after the mission ends, we have also helped some people create books during an active mission. Whether you’re planning to present the Preserve a Mission book to the returned missionary as a gift, or you want to print books for a specific period of time over the course of the mission, we can help. We’re working on a feature to automatically update your Preserve a Mission account as new emails arrive, and we’ll make an announcement when this functionality is ready. For now, if you’d like to start working on your book during an ongoing mission, please contact us at [email protected] and we can help you get started.
Can I add a scanned documents to my book, such as a scan of the mission call?
If you’d like to include scanned documents, a handwritten letter, or other types of scanned files that are not included in your MyLDSMail or Gmail mission emails, we can help. While limited, we have the ability to make minor changes to your finished book design to include some of these additions. Please contact us at [email protected] with a specific description of your request for additional information.
How do I make a book if I no longer have access to MyLDSMail?
Your MyLDSMail account is deactivated after you return from your mission. Many returned missionaries save those emails by transferring them to a personal email account, and if you have stored your mission emails this way, you can make a Preserve a Mission book. If you stored your emails in another format, such as a Word document or another file on your computer, contact us directly for assistance. We can still make a book, but there may be additional steps involved. For more information on creating books from saved emails, send us a message at [email protected]
If your MyLDSMail account has been deactivated and you did not transfer your emails to another account, you may be able to retrieve some of the emails that you sent to friends or relatives by contacting them directly. Your book will contain only the emails sent to and from those people.
Can I convert my mission blog into a book?
Some missionaries maintain blogs during their mission trips. With Preserve a Mission’s Blog to Book service, you can turn that blog into a beautifully bound hardcover book, too.
Blog to Book works with both WordPress and Blogger (Blogspot) blogs. You simply export your blog posts, then upload that XML file to Preserve a Mission. If you have a blog on another platform, contact Preserve a Mission for personal assistance.
Can a mom make a book for her missionary?
Yes, you can! In fact, we think it’s a wonderful gift idea, and lots of mothers have made Preserve a Mission books for their loved ones. Begin by creating a Preserve a Mission account, and then there are two ways you can design a book for your missionary:
The best way is to simply ask your returning missionary for their MyLDSMail username and password, and import their messages directly into your Preserve a Mission account. By uploading from your missionary’s MyLDSMail account, you can choose what to include from all of their mission emails and photos. From there, you use your own Preserve a Mission account to edit, design, and customize your book.
Alternatively, you can connect your own email account and import all of the correspondence between you and your missionary. If you decide to use this method, your book will only contain messages that were exchanged between the two of you.
Will all of my MyLDSMail emails be uploaded?
You can upload as many or as few emails from your account as you’d like, and after they are uploaded, you can make changes. Here’s how you select which emails you’d like to upload:
In GMail and MyLDSMail, you can create labels to organize your email messages. Create a label for the emails you’d like to upload, and then add all of the sent and received messages you’d like in your finished book to that label. You’ll be able to upload only those emails you want to include. As you edit your book, you can change, add, or delete text, and include or delete any photos that were attached to your emails.
Can I create a book using a Word Doc or other file?
We will gladly help you create a beautiful, custom Preserve a Mission book using other file types. If you no longer have access to your emails through GMail or MyLDSMail, but you saved those messages and images in a Word Document or other file, the upload process is going to be a little bit more complicated. Contact us directly through this website, or email us at [email protected], and we’ll help you preserve your mission.
Should I still transfer my mission emails over to my personal email account after my mission?
We recommend to all missionaries to transfer their mission emails over to their personal email account, per the instructions given on the opening page of your myldsmail.net account after their return home. This way they can keep their emails digitally as well as physically when they purchase their book.
Do you offer PDFs or eBooks?
You may choose to add a PDF book to your order for an additional $5. If you’d like a PDF version of your hardcover book, select the PDF checkbox on the Book Options page before completing checkout. Digital books are add-ons and are not available individually at this time.
Are photos included in the book?
Yes! Your professionally printed and bound book includes color photos.
The first 75 photos are included in the overall price of your book. For any additional photos, there is a small 10 cent charge per photo due to the price of color ink. Photos that are attached to your emails are automatically uploaded, and if you’d like to include only some of those images, you can delete pictures you don’t want to print in your book.
